The Roku Ultra is considered the flagship model which has all the bells and whistles. It supports 4K and HDR streaming, and Dolby Digital Plus via HDMI. It has an Ethernet port, USB port, and microSD card. These can be used for playing back stored media, optical output, and as an extension of internal storage.

The remote is provided with a headphone jack for private listening. It has an added functionality of a remote finder. When you lost the remote, there will be a button on the box which will help you to track the remote by making a sound. The remote is provided with features like voice-enabled search and motion control for gaming.

Roku Premiere +:

  • Price: 89$

  • It has a simple remote.
  • Connect to TV via HDMI.
  • Only Micro SD card is present for storage expansion.

The Roku premiere + adds HDR, hardwired ethernet, a micro SD slot when compared to the premiere.  It has most of the features that are available in Ultra. This does not decode Dolby Audio via HDMI and optical. The Remote is simple, it does not have any features that are found in Roku Ultra. Screen Mirroring functionality is not present. There is no free Roku mobile app for iOS and Android.

Which is the best?

When it comes to performance, the premiere+ is considered as the middle child of Roku’s 2016 line-up. What makes premiere+ the best choice is it supports for pairing with the new 4k HDR TV when compared with the premiere 2016.

Roku ultra, the top-end model, has some extra features like the remote has voice search, stream player has USB and audio optical port for connecting to more devices. But in premiere +, we never felt the absence of any of these features. You can find very few difference with the features of Roku Ultra and Roku premiere +. If 4K HDR streaming is your primary focus then the rest is not going be an issue.

Roku premiere is for anyone who needs a new 4K, HDR content and considering the power and performance with this little device, there is no better option. It is catching up to be worthy and won’t let you down. Personally I feel Roku premiere is better when compared with Roku Ultra.
